Sequence 1
PRECAUTIONS: General : Caution should be exercised in patients with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or thyroid disease and in patients who exhibit difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland. Check with a physician if symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if accompanied by high fever, rash or persistent headache. Drug Interactions : Do not take BP 8 Cough Suspension if you are presently taking a prescription drug for high blood pressure or depression, without first consulting with a physician. MAO Inhibitor therapy and beta adrenergic blockers may increase the effect of sympathomimetics. Sympathomimetics may reduce the antihypertensive effects of methyldopa, mecamylamine, reserpine and veratrum alkaloids. Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride may increase the possibility of cardiac arrhythmias in patients presently taking digitalis glycosides. Dextromethorphan should be used with caution in sedated or debilitated patients and in patients confined to supine positions. Carcinogenesis, Mutagenesis, Impairment of Fertility : No data is currently available on long-term potential for carcinogenesis, mutagenesis or impairment of fertility in animals or humans. Use in Pregnancy : Pregnancy Category C: Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with BP 8 Cough Suspension. It is also not known whether BP 8 Cough Suspension can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. BP 8 Cough Suspension should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed. Nursing Mothers : Pseudoephedrine is excreted in human milk; use by nursing mothers is not recommended because of the higher than usual risk of side effects from sympathomimetic amines for infants, especially newborn and premature infants. It is not known whether Guaifenesin or Dextromethorphan is excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Guaifenesin or Dextromethorphan is administered to a nursing mother and a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Geriatrics : Pseudoephedrine should be used with caution in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the sympathomimetics.
